SASSA Grants Saw Two Increases in 2025: Check the New Payment Rates

More than two significant increase in grant payment has been announced by SASSA for the year 2025. The grant payments have, therefore, become the cordial shift of good news for millions of South Africans who depend on them for their daily subsistence. It is even more interesting in the light of the increasing cost of living regarding which many households have been experiencing a serious tussle in their finances. The two increases will target vulnerable groups such that they can meet their speckings concerning basic needs with the ongoing economic depression in the country.

Increase One: January 2025

The first increase in SASSA grants has come into effect in January 2025. This increase is significant for the beneficiary’s sustaining moment as it aims at aligning SASSA grants to inflation and the increased cost of living.

Details of Grant Payments

Older Person’s Grant: This is a grant which supports older persons who are aged 60 years and above. The current amount allocated under this has changed from R2,050 to R2,100, which is an increase of R50. The amount will go a long way in taking care of the essential services like transport and medical for senior citizens and helping them to cater to other daily living expenses. 

Disability Grant: Similarly, Dependency on the disability grant and a person with disabilities enjoyed these increases. The amount has been increased to R2,100 for 2025 from R2,050. This forms part of the government’s commitment towards people with disabilities, promising them a guaranteed income.

Child Support Grant: The Child Support Grant, given to parents and caregivers for the expenses related to raising children, has been increased to R480 per child. This grant relieves the financial burden off families, especially those poor.

Foster Care Grant: Foster parents who are responsible for raising children beyond their immediate family have seen their grant amounts increased to R1,000 per child. This was especially important considering that foster families incur high costs in raising children who are not their own, and the new amount will relieve some of these pressures on them.

Second Increase: Mid-Year Adjustment (April 2025)

The grant value would then further increase in April 2025. This will be a second wave of financial relief for all grant recipients. The second wave of the mid-year adjustment is also part of the South African government’s efforts to mitigate the rising costs of basic goods and services. The increment will be a little more than the one in January so that the recipients will still be able to afford to survive financially during the whole year. 

  • Older Person’s Grant: The payment for older persons will increase to R2,150. 
  • Disability Grant: The disability grant will rise to R2,150 as well. 
  • Child Support Grant: The Child Support Grant will also adjust to R510 per child. 
  • Foster Care Grant: Increases the foster care grant to R1,050 per child.
