More than two significant increase in grant payment has been announced by SASSA for the year 2025. Increase One: January 2025

Details of Grant Payments
Older Person’s Grant: This is a grant which supports older persons who are aged 60 years and above. The current amount allocated under this has changed from R2,050 to R2,100, which is an increase of R50. Disability Grant: Similarly, Dependency on the disability grant and a person with disabilities enjoyed these increases. The amount has been increased to R2,100 for 2025 from R2,050. This forms part of the government’s commitment towards people with disabilities, promising them a guaranteed income.
Child Support Grant: The Child Support Grant, given to parents and caregivers for the expenses related to raising children, has been increased to R480 per child. This grant relieves the financial burden off families, especially those poor.
Foster Care Grant: Foster parents who are responsible for raising children beyond their immediate family have seen their grant amounts increased to R1,000 per child. This was especially important considering that foster families incur high costs in raising children who are not their own, and the new amount will relieve some of these pressures on them.
Second Increase: Mid-Year Adjustment (April 2025)
The grant value would then further increase in April 2025. This will be a second wave of financial relief for all grant recipients. The second wave of the mid-year adjustment is also part of the South African government’s efforts to mitigate the rising costs of basic goods and services. The increment will be a little more than the one in January so that the recipients will still be able to afford to survive financially during the whole year.
