Why The Increase?
Increased grants would come at a pivotal time for South Africa in its fight against the economic challenges it faces: inflation rates soaring high, unemployment, and higher food and utility prices. The government recognizes SASSA grants as instruments that relieve poverty and provide numerous South Africans with support.
The Effects Of The Payment Increase On Beneficiaries
- Financial Stability : Beneficiaries will receive more resources to attend to basic needs: older people and children may now have access to sufficient food; health and education costs.
- Support for Low-End Income Households : The increase in grants will be seen as a lifeline to many struggling families who would have experienced that extra financial buffer for deflation.
- Boost to Local Economies : This allows beneficiaries to spend disposable incomes on more goods and services thereby raising their contributions to economies in their own communities.
Payment Dates For 2025
The SASSA payment cycle will continue in the identical manner as before, in that payments will be honored on the very first day of every month. If that date falls on a weekend or public holiday, payments will then be made the business day before.
