- Age: Your age must be 19 and older, or you must have a common-law partner or spouse, or be a parent with a child.
- Income: The lowest family income threshold must be below the frozen income threshold according to family size.
If you earn beyond the threshold, you will not be qualified for anything; your benefit will be reduced further from that point. At the time of assessment, though, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will automatically calculate eligibility when you file your tax return.

All payments of GST/HST shall then be conducted by the CRA every quarter in general. For the year 2025, the schedule is:
- January 5, 2025
- April 5, 2025
- July 5, 2025
- October 4, 2025
