Important News For Early SASSA Older Person Grants In January 2025

Owing to an unusual circumstance in the current year, the grants paid each January to older persons under the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) are going to be paid earlier than what is customary. The date this year will be Friday, 3 January 2025. This is a relief not just to the country’s elderly population, but also to the people because most of them go through an affluence after the long festive season. The advance payment is for all purposes, except alleviating part of the burden when ushering in the new year and providing peace of mind to a person who relies wholly on this grant for the survival of their household.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has come to play an important role in the elderly citizenry of the country. According to its mandate to alleviate poverty, SASSA grants Elderly Person Grants to South African citizens above the age of sixty, without adequate means. This prevents elderly persons from a state of vulnerability and enables some basic needs such as food, shelter, and medical attention. Although early payment this year was out of the customary payment time, it is a favorable deviation that shows SASSA’s attention to the needs of older citizens.
