8th Pay Commission: So, it is looking that the central government will soon constitute the 8th Pay Commission. Delay in forming the 8th Pay Commission has irked about 1 crore government employees and pensioners. According to these wage earners, the 8th Pay Commission should be made effective from January 1, 2026. The Federation has also demanded that the old pension scheme be restored and that contract employees be regularized.

Employee Federation showed a united taste of discontent with the central government by refusal to look into the demands. Reinstating OPS isn’t the least in one of them. Now the Federation goes nationwide for a kind of protest on New Year’s day. Subhash Lamba, National President of All India State Government Employees Federation said that there will be a National Executive Meeting in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on 28-29 December. Report said, ‘Thick plan will be drawn regarding the demonstration for this meeting. ‘ Quoting Lamba, the report said that apart from the officials of All India State Government Employees Federation, the heads and general secretaries of the organizations of all the states will participate in the meeting.
What Did The Government Say On 8th Pay Commission
It has also been made clear by the Union Finance Ministry that presently, the government has no such proposal for establishing the Eighth Pay Commission. In reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary confirmed that the Eighth Central Pay Commission is not on the agenda. The Employees Federation protested on the New Year in protest against delays concerning the 8th Pay Commission.
Immediate Need For The 8th Pay Commission
Barely days after the Finance Ministry stated that ‘there is no proposal under consideration’, the National Council (Staff Side) of the Joint Consultative Machinery, wrote to the Cabinet Secretary urging him to have a new pay commission ‘urgently’ constituted, as it had already been 9 years since the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations. That letter dated December 3 indicated that pension and pay revision would have effect from January 1, 2026.
